šŸ‘‹šŸ» Welcome!

A little 'about the author', the origin of The Grocer, and what you can expect in future newsletters.

šŸ‘‹šŸ» Hello!

Welcome to The Grocer! Thanks so much for subscribing!

Introductions are in order, yeah? Ok, cool ā€” Iā€™ll go first.

My name is Sam Sherfey, and Iā€™m a ā€˜digital generalistā€™ from Baltimore, Maryland. I work for the worldā€™s largest tool company, managing Digital Experience and eComm Strategy for some of our biggest brands and retailers, such as DEWALT, CRAFTSMAN, CUB CADET, and so on. Before that, I worked on the agency side of advertising as a Project Manager overseeing everything from naming & branding to website development.

Somewhere along the journey, I got hooked on CPG (consumer packaged goods) and anything DTC (direct-to-consumer). The products, the packaging, and the ad campaignsā€¦ they just kind of tickle something in my weird brain.

In the 1950ā€™s, my family owned and operated a small grocery store. This was way before Kroger, Costco, Albertsons, and Publix. So anyway, I am quite literally a descendent of grocers, or people who sell food and small household goods. I thought the name of this newsletter was a nice little nod to the olā€™ family tree as well as my interest in whatā€™s new on the shelves.

And so, The Grocer is a personal project to share commerce-related news, whether it be product, brand & packaging design, technology, or beyond. In some ways, this is a bit of a look into my personal algorithm ā€” what I like to read, watch, or listen to. I may even sneak in some of the bigger sports headlines from time-to-time.

If you have any questions or just want to chat, feel free to reach out by responding to this email or filling out the form on my personal site. And, if youā€™ve taken a look at the archive and feel so inclined, consider sharing The Grocer with a friend! šŸ™‚

Again, thanks so much for being here. See you in the inbox!
